During walkabout following the traditional Sovereign’s welcome ceremony to York at Micklegate Bar, four eggs were thrown at the royal couple by a protestor. Fortunately it did not hit the pair who were quickly ushered away. The 23-year-old protestor arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, was named as  Patrick Thelwell. He was protesting the slave trade and shouted 'this country was built on the blood of slaves' during his arrest. <br />

During walkabout following the traditional Sovereign’s welcome ceremony to York at Micklegate Bar, four eggs were thrown at the royal couple by a protestor.
