PRINCE WILLIAM Completes His First SAR Shift Rescue.Flt Lt William Wales performed his first RAF Search & Rescue shift as a the co-pilot of the four man crew of a RAF Sea King helicopter, callsign "Rescue 122" from 'C' Flight, 22 Squadron which is based at RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales. .The SAR crew of "Rescue 122" was scrambled at 2:11pm on Saturday, 2 October 2010 to transfer a seriously-ill crewman from an accommodation rig next to a gas production platform in Morecambe Bay. The crewman was flown to an on-shore helicopter landing site, transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital, RAF Valley, Anglesey_05/10/2010..PRINCE WILLIAM .has successfully completed the final phase of his RAF helicopter flying training and is now a fully-qualified Search and Rescue pilot. Flight Lieutenant Wales recently passed the last stage of the Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) course at Royal Air Force Valley, Wales and will join Number 22 Squadron, C Flight as a fully-operational pilot flying the Sea King Mk3 helicopter after his graduation in mid-September. During the seven month OCU course Prince William undertook 70 hours of flying training (plus 50 hours of simulator training) and learnt how to manoeuvre the Sea King helicopter with pinpoint accuracy. The training included day and night flying and training to provide a life-saving rescue service to both military personnel and civilians in the UK; rescuing people from the sea, on mountains, from flooded regions or other areas on land, in all weathers. One of the final elements of the course was a two-day exercise during which students, accompanied by instructors, were tested on a wide range of simulated rescue sorties to prove their ability to work as fully integrated members of the Search and Rescue Force.
