Prince Harry brought back a matching African elephant hair bracelet for his brother Prince William_ a belated birthday gift as he had missed his 22nd birthday as he was in Botswana.
The Princes happily displayed them on their arm when they played polo with their father Prince Charles.
It is illegal to import the real African elephant hair bracelet in some countries.
They are an age-old favorite of Africans and Westerners alike. According to a 1200-year-old legend, it is believed that the wearer of such a bracelet would be protected from illness, taken out of harms way and attain great fortune. The two knots on this bracelet respectively represent the earth (fertility and ancestors) and nature (forces and spirits). The strands symbolize the yearly seasons. Moving the knots along the strands is thought to create a balance and blend between earth and nature, thus enabling the wearer to be in sync with nature’s rhythm. For centuries it has been believed that when a person’s spirit is in tune or has achieved a balance with the earth and nature, health is promoted. The wearer will not fall to sickness as often or as easy, quick healing will prevail and an over all healthier bodily state will be maintained.
The Princes were playing in a the Gurkha Welfare Challenge charity polo match at Cirencester Polo Club,Gloucestershire.
