meets with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The Aga Khan was in India for the inauguration ceremony marking the completion of restoration work on Humayun’s Tomb.
Aga Khan Trust for Culture had taken up the restoration project in partnership with Archaeological Survey of India in 2007.
Over six years, 2,00,000 man-days of work and efforts of 1,500 conservationists and craftsmen were needed to restore the tomb of Mughal Emperor Humayun, a 16th century architectural marvel from the Mughal period.
Built in the 1560s—on a far grander scale than any of its predecessors—it was the model for the Taj, according to historians.
